Stanford’s Cameron Brink: Undecided WNBA Prospect Sparks Speculation Amidst Stellar Season
Stanford standout Cameron Brink is poised for a significant decision as the 2024 WNBA Draft looms, with speculation swirling around her potential lottery pick status. However, despite the anticipation, Brink has yet to commit to turning pro after the current season. Addressing the matter following Stanford’s victory over Arizona State, which secured the Pac-12 regular-season title, Brink remained noncommittal amidst the celebratory atmosphere.
“In regard to my decision whether to stay another year or enter the draft, I’m still weighing my options,” Brink stated amid the post-game revelry, prompting chants from fans urging her to consider another year with the team.
Despite being a senior, Brink holds the possibility of returning for an additional season thanks to the COVID eligibility extension. Opting for another year would undoubtedly impact the anticipated 2024 draft class, already marked by the decision of Paige Bueckers to continue her collegiate career with UConn.
Brink showcased her prowess on the court with an impressive performance against Arizona State, contributing 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks. Her consistent excellence throughout the season underscores her status as one of college basketball’s most promising prospects.
Standing tall at 6-foot-4, Brink has long been recognized for her defensive prowess, boasting accolades such as the Women’s Basketball Coach’s Association Defensive Player of the Year and two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. However, she has also demonstrated significant growth on the offensive end, evident in her career-high averages of 17.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 3.6 blocks per game this season.
Guiding Stanford with her multifaceted contributions, Brink has propelled the team to a commendable 24-4 record and a No. 3 ranking nationally. With aspirations for a fourth national championship, Stanford aims to capitalize on Brink’s talent, reminiscent of her impactful freshman year performance during the team’s previous title run in 2021.
