Caitlin Clark Makes History: Surpassing Curry’s Three-Point Milestone
In a dazzling display of skill, Caitlin Clark of the Iowa Hawkeyes shattered records and left her mark in NCAA Division-I history during Friday’s Big Ten Tournament clash against the Penn State Lady Lions. Surpassing the likes of NBA legend Steph Curry, Clark etched her name in the record books by hitting the most three-pointers in a single season.
Curry, once tied with Liberty Flames’ Darius McGhee, set the bar high in the 2007-08 season with 162 successful three-pointers while playing for the Davidson Wildcats. However, Clark’s remarkable feat now stands as a testament to her prowess on the court, overshadowing even the greatest of shooters.
Despite a rocky start, marked by 11 missed attempts from beyond the arc, Clark’s resilience and skill shone through as she contributed significantly to Iowa’s commanding victory over Penn State. Coach Lisa Bluder acknowledged Clark’s exceptional performance, even on what she termed as an “off night,” where Clark still managed to rack up impressive stats.
“It’s funny, Caitlin has an off night, and how many people would say you have an off night when you have 24 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, but it was an off night for Caitlin,” Bluder remarked in the postgame press conference.
Clark’s journey to breaking records didn’t stop there. With a playful spirit and a dedication to her team, she sunk the crucial shot that secured her place in history. Reflecting on her record-breaking moment, Clark expressed her joy and emphasized the importance of enjoying the game.
“I was trolling and messing around when I made that. You’ve got to have some fun,” Clark said of her historic three-pointer. “I thought our team had a lot of fun tonight. I’m just proud of our girls.”
This latest achievement adds to Clark’s impressive resume, which includes recently becoming the NCAA Division-I all-time leading scorer for both men’s and women’s basketball, overtaking the legendary “Pistol” Pete Maravich.
As Iowa gears up to face the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, all eyes remain on Clark and her remarkable journey of breaking barriers and making history in collegiate basketball.
